How this calculator works

Under each pay commission, a single multiplier called the fitment factor converts your old basic pay into a new one. The 7th Pay Commission used a fitment factor of 2.57. For the 8th Pay Commission, estimates range from 1.83 to 2.57, while employee unions have asked for about 3.83. The calculator multiplies your current basic pay by each of these.

It also shows a "real increase." DA is currently 60% of basic pay, so today you effectively receive 1.6 times your basic in basic plus DA. Because DA has historically been folded into the new basic pay and reset to zero when a new pay commission starts, the honest comparison is between the new basic and your current basic plus DA, before allowances such as HRA are recalculated.

This page will be updated when the 8th Pay Commission submits its recommendations and the government announces the final fitment factor. Last updated October 10, 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the 8th Pay Commission salary calculated?

Your new basic pay is your current 7th Pay Commission basic pay multiplied by the fitment factor the government finally adopts. For example, a basic pay of ₹18,000 with a fitment factor of 2.00 becomes ₹36,000.

What is the fitment factor for the 8th Pay Commission?

It has not been decided yet. Figures under discussion range from about 1.83 to 2.57, while employee unions have asked for around 3.83. The commission is still holding consultations, and the final number will be set by the government after it reports.

Why is my real increase smaller than the fitment factor suggests?

When a new pay commission takes effect, Dearness Allowance (DA) has historically been reset to zero because it is absorbed into the new basic pay. With DA currently at 60%, today's basic pay plus DA is already 1.6 times your basic, so a fitment factor of 1.83 adds only about 14% to that combined amount.

When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?

January 1, 2026 is the reference date, but the commission has up to 18 months from its constitution on November 3, 2025 to submit its report. Arrears would apply from the reference date if it is implemented retrospectively.

Does this calculator work for pensioners?

Yes. Pension revisions have historically used the same fitment factor, so you can enter your current basic pension to see a projected revised pension. The final pension formula has not been announced.
